Madison County Emergency Medical Services (MEMS) is a career department providing emergency medical care to the citizens of Madison County, Virginia. We have operated in conjunction with the Madison County Rescue Squad volunteer crews since January of 2000. Madison County is nestled against the Blue Ridge Mountains in central Virginia.

MEMS is available seven days a week from 5:00 am to 6:00 pm by dialing 911. Every staff member holds an advanced life support certification as well as vehicle rescue certification. Additionally, most are trained in at least one technical rescue discipline.

When considering advanced medical care, MEMS is one of the most progressive services in the mid-atlantic region . Under the medical direction of Bill Brady, MD, of the University of Virginia Health System's Department of Emergency Medicine, MEMS providers are trained to perform many advanced level skills and provide dozens of life-saving medications on standing order. Two examples of a few new treatments we are providing the public include 1) the induction of hypothermia in post-resuscitation cardiac arrest patients, and 2) using ACE inhibitors in combination with CPAP and nitroglycerine for the treatment of moderate-to-severe CHF exacerbation.
